What the specs mean for you

Laptop charging through the hub

100W

Enough to keep almost any laptop charging at full speed while you work, including 14-inch MacBook Pros.

Data speed

5 Gbps

About 400 MB/s: fine for flash drives, hard drives, keyboards and webcams, and a bottleneck for fast SSDs.

Display output

4K @ 60Hz

Smooth high-resolution output for a monitor or TV.

Total ports

14

A full desk’s worth of connections from one cable.

Why people pick it

  • Two extended 4K@60Hz monitors on MacBook Air models that natively support only one external display
  • Up to 100W charging to the laptop from an included 130W power adapter
  • Gigabit Ethernet, UHS-II SD reader, headset jack and five 5Gbps USB ports on one cable
  • HDMI or DisplayPort for each screen, so most monitors connect without adapters

Know before you buy

  • Requires the DisplayLink Manager app on macOS, plus Screen Recording permission
  • Per Plugable, HDCP-protected video (Netflix, Disney+) will not play on any display on macOS while the dock is connected
  • No HiDPI (Retina) scaling on DisplayLink screens: a 4K monitor runs at native 4K or 1080p
  • Not suited to gaming, video editing or other GPU-heavy apps
  • Displays, Ethernet and USB devices share one 5Gbps host link
  • Desk-bound: 465g plus an external power brick
